NEW! Slone commissioned to create 'Final 1' painting for Bernard Hopkins
'Bernard Hopkins' Acrylic on Canvas 2016 36x48 inches Commissioned by Oscar de la Hoya
LOS ANGELES (DEC 16) - Boxing legend Oscar de la Hoya reached out wanting to commission Slone to create something special and unique to present to future hall of famer Bernard Hopkins during the last fight of Hopkins iconic career which happened in Los Angeles on Dec 17, 2016. Slone decided to create a larger than life portrait of Hopkins in his classic fight stance, with emphasis on his stare, "The eyes says it all" noted Slone, who has known Hopkins since the early 90's when the pair trained in the Philadelphia gyms.
Oscar threw his creative vision in the mix, wanted the Philly skyline in the background, then they decided Slone should paint it in golden hues, to pay homage to Golden Boy Promotions, Oscar's company in which Hopkins is also a partner. The deal was done and what you see above is the final outcome of Slone's painting. Hopkins was presented the original at the weigh in by Slone and De la Hoya. "It was a huge honor to be asked by Oscar to paint this tribute to Hopkins" said Slone, "He's truly a legend".
