March, 2011: Richard T. Slone has unveiled his latest work of art, a spectacular acrylic on canvas painting of 2010 Fighter of the Year, Sergio Martinez.
Slone captures the current WBC Middleweight Champion, in a classic victory stance, with his championship belt proudly worn across his chest. Looking directly into the eyes of this latest portrait the viewer is faced with emotions felt by Martinez's challengers. Slone masterfully translates the confidence, determination and will power of one of boxing's most popular fighters.
Slone's choice of colors seem impeccable and it breathes life into the painting. Subtle hues of blue and white fill the background, possibly an abstract symbolism of the Argentinean flag, where Martinez hails from. The bright red accents offer a stark contrast and excitement as delivered in many of Martinez's fights which are often dangerous and explosive.
Martinez, is recognized by many, including the Boxing Writers Association of America as the 2010 Fighter of the Year and will be presented with their highest honor, the Sugar Ray Robinson award at the 86th annual dinner in Las Vegas in May.

Slone's was selected from over160 international acclaimed sports artists and commissioned to create a work of art to capture the essence of Bafana Bafana as they hosted the 2010 Fifa World Cup.
