Renowned artist Richard T. Slone has released his latest painting, a stunning portrait of boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr., simply titled ‘Mayweather’.

The painting was done to honor Floyd’s accomplishments in 2007, earning him ‘Fighter of the Year’ from the prestigious Boxing Writers Association of America. The painting will grace the cover of the program at the 83rd annual awards event where they will honor Floyd on May 1st in Los Angeles, California.

The acrylic on canvas masterpiece is 18 inches by 24 inches and masterfully done to pay homage to one of the most iconic sporting figures of the twenty first century. Floyd is depicted in a classic stance, ready for battle. The vibrant colors create a balance and energy that is typical in Slone’s paintings. To sports fans it’s unmistakably Mayweather and to fine art collectors, unmistakably Slone, it is a winning combination.

This is the first time in ten years that Slone has painted a portrait of Mayweather. In 1998 the young up and coming boxer commissioned Slone to paint a portrait of himself, at that time Slone knew Mayweather would be a star. “He always had the ‘it’ factor” say’s Slone who has painted countless other stars and celebrities. ‘There was always something special about Floyd and even then he was a class act. I’m happy to paint him as Fighter of the Year and look forward to painting him for the Hall of Fame, because he proven to be one of the best fighters ever”. Slone is the official artist of the International Boxing Hall of Fame and Mayweather is touted to be enshrined upon his first eligible year.

Mayweather, widely recognized as boxing's finest pound-for-pound performer, will receive the Edward J. Neil Award as Fighter of the Year. Mayweather (39-0, 25 KOs), who scored a split decision over Oscar De La Hoya (in the highest-grossing pay-per-view fight of all time) and knocked out the previously undefeated Ricky Hatton in 10 rounds in his two ring appearances in 2007.

Richard T. Slone has been hailed by the media as the next great artist. His work is widely collected by art collectors and high-society. Owners of his originals include Donald Trump, Nelson Mandela, Hugh Hefner and Muhammad Ali. He is the official artist of the International Boxing Hall of Fame, an official artist of the UFC and at only 34 years of age is one of the most accomplished emerging artist’s in the world. Earlier this year the National Geographic came to an agreement to publish his work over the next ten years.  He is nominated for Sports Artist of the Year 2008.
